NCR Corp., which is rolling out thousands of movie rental kiosks under the Blockbuster Express name, has sought to reassure consumers following Blockbuster’s bankruptcy filing last week.
The Duluth, Ga.-based manufacturer sent an e-mail to customers informing them that Blockbuster Express is a wholly owned separate business operating via a license agreement with Dallas-based Blockbuster.
“You may have heard today that the company, Blockbuster, has announced plans to enter into bankruptcy protection to restructure their finances. We wish them great success in that process,” said Justin Hotard, VP and GM of NCR Entertainment. “You should know, however, that the Blockbuster Express business is 100% owned and operated by NCR Corp., a rock-solid public company that has pioneered breakthrough consumer experiences for more than 125 years. We look forward to serving up those great experiences for another 125 years and more.”
NCR currently has 7,000 Express kiosks in operation and has not given guidance on additional units into 2011. Express kiosks, unlike rival Redbox, sport a 10-inch high-definition LCD screen on top that plays new-release screeners, in addition to holding nearly twice (900) the disc copy depth of Redbox kiosks.
