Ok, heres my story. I've worked for Blockbuster for over 3 years now. 100 % mystery shops, customers and employees love me. I never take time off. Well, my brother died of cancer. I prepared the store that he would be dying any day within 2 weeks. We were short handed and our district did nothing to help the situation. I get the call while I'm working and tell the store manager that I have to leave for a few hours. I watch my brother die and I come back to work.
Because of the new mystery shop at any given day of the week policy, I ended up missing one of the questions during my shift. The district manager tried to write me up, but thankfully my store manager would not do it.
Now today, I'm closing and my csr and I have been getting a few prank phone calls. I get a phone call 5 minutes prior to close asking for "Troop Beverly Hills" I look it up and of course we don't have it because our store has a terrible selection of movies. I apologized and accidently broke the cardinal rule of Blockbuster. I said "I'm sorry we don't have that and I believe the other video stores in town are closed". The guy threw a hissy fit and said he was from Blockbuster corporate mystery call (never heard of it) and I was in a lot of trouble. I apologized and he asked for my name which I gave to him. He then asked for my csr's name. He said he was in trouble too. I asked him what happened and he flipped again sayin "Did you just ask me what happened, Oh my god I can't believe you just did that. I asked him for a movie and he looked it up but he wasn't very helpfull."
Ok, I was next to the csr while he answered the phone calls and he was even helpfull to the prank calls so I started getting curious about who this guy was.
I again apologized and he continue to provoke an argument with me by saying "I can't belive you asked me what he did, do you know how much trouble your in?" He then proceded to ask more questions about myself and the csr so I asked him his name. That was it. He flipped out: "You want to know my name, did you just ask me my name?! Oh my god! It's Steve Myles, from Blockbuster Corporation! I will be in touch with your district and you will get what is coming to you!
Wow! I was totally shocked and pissed. I never knew that Blockbuster Corporate employees were this unprofessional. I've had a mystery call before at another place of business and they never asked for anybody's information over the phone. They would just write down what happened and contact either the district or store manager. This guy in my opinion invited an argument and showed me how petty and immature this company can truly be. So if anybody knows Steve Myles from Blockbuster Corporate, tell him to kiss my ass! We work hard to achieve Blockbuster's quotas. Our store is understaffed and overworked but still we go in with a smile on our face.
The good news is that I actually tendered my resignation last week due to the shoddy treatment my store had been given by the Corporate offices. I'll post another thread regarding the mental health of some of our staff and how Blockbuster Corporate knowingly looked the other way.
Whew, I feel a little better now.

So in other words you have been receiving prank calls but are still stupid enough to believe that guy was from corporate.

Well, I have to say I'm disappointed. I was hoping for a third go-round of the "My Manager Is Crazy" story.
Still, I can't help but feel that I heard this before, somewhere..... wish I could put my finger on it.

Yeah, Steve Miles is the name of a lawyer and I guess was the first name your prankster could think of when you asked for his name. Why you would think someone is calling you from corporate 5 minutes before closing time is beyond me.
Still, glad to hear you are moving on. You won't regret it.

My RDO told us that the company is doing mystery shop calls.
Because that's not a waste of money at all.

Yeah I work at a franchise location, though. Unless Corporate is including franchisees in this? This is the first time I've heard of them doing this.

The call you received was bogus. If it were really a mystery shop "call", they wouldn't tell you who they were at the end of it. That's why we get our results in paperwork.

As far as I know my district is not doing Mystery Calls.

I used to be suspicious of calls from "customers" inquiring about the movie pass or Rewards benefits. It seemed that they wanted to know if it could be explained to them satisfactorily. You never know...

Sorry about your brother... but wtf dude, what the hell do the prank calls have to do with blockbuster? If you are quitting because of "shoddy" treatment then fine but be clear about it. Ranting is one thing, but this is incoherent ranting, and the only reason you aren't getting the donkey punch is because of your brother.

I tell people about Blockbuster online if we don't have it and when they tell me they don't want I ask if they've checked the other video stores in the area.
I've even called other video stores in the area to see if they have movies that people want that we don't have. :dunno: IMO that is good customer service, getting the person what they want, now if we could request DVDs for rental so they could come back to the store and get it that would be something else. I'm sure Corporate would disagree with me though.
