I remember their was a genuine site that customers could complain on, and the webmaster would delete employee comments.

That website does not exist anymore.

At the end of the day, Chris is running a well used site, and that is hard to set up on the internet these days.

By having a well run site, Chris has been asked onto radio before to talk about Blockbuster.

He's hardly Eric Ebaum. He makes enough to keep the site running and maybe a bit more but hes not in the penthouse suite at the Waldorf.

This thread is exactly what I expected to see from Blockbuster employees. I deal with idiot customers all day long too, but I don't treat them any different than my best customers because they are still paying customers and to lose one customer is too many!

I have switched over to Netflix and have not had a single complaint about the service. I rent four movies a week and have done so for many years. My family never brought the movies back on time and I have always paid the late fees, so for all of you thinking my complaint is about late fees, you are wrong.

My complaint is just this...Customer service. I could care less about everything else but you need to treat your customers like they are gold. There are so many other avenues to rent movies these days. When you treat a customer wrong they are going to dissappear.

None of the employees I have met in any of the three Blockbuster video stores in my area knew anything about customer service. When someone asks you a question don't tell them what they want to hear. Tell them truth. If they have a history of doing something and trying to get out of it then politely tell them the way it is. But when I ask you a question I expect a correct answer, not some remark, or if you don't know the answer then tell the customer that you will find someone who can help. This is basic customer service. When I get an answer, I restate the answer back to the employee in my own words to make sure I understand the answer. If that employee agrees then I am sure I understand the answer. The next time I go to that store and ask another employee the same question I should get the same answer, not some other answer. If Blockbuster is running some sort of promotion and I ask a question about it there should be some written information somewhere that has an explanation.

Such as the promotion that was running a few weeks ago that says you can rent one and get one free. Nowhere did I see any mention if it was just movies or did it include games too so I asked if this includes the Xbox 360 games and immediately the employee said yes. I repeat back to the young lady, "So, I can rent an Xbox 360 game and get a second one for free?" Again, the answer was yes. So, am I to think otherwise when I walk up to the counter with two Xbox 360 games to rent one and get one for free? When I got to the counter it was a different employee so I asked if the deal was still valid next week and I got a stare down like I just landed from outerspace. Her response was what??? There is no rent one get one free for Xbox 360 games. Well, I said, that is what I was just told by that woman over there.... You can imagine what happened next...Five minutes later I left the store pissed off with nothing in my hands and I will never be going back to rent $8.00 games from Blockbuster video...

This all could have been different if she would have just said "Sorry, I made a mistake, I will do it for you this time but next time you will have to pay for them both." WOW, what great customer service, have a great day.

You should have posted this from the very beginning, you would have been treated a lot different. Yes , that was bad info given to you and they should had talked to the employee to verify what was said. I would have done what you said should have been done. But grant you the manager on duty is probably under the same stress we are about giving credits. Corp is breathing down our necks on this one. Don't judge us all by your bad experience.

Yeah, the "he said, she said" rule falls into place here, but keep in mind that these customers have felt wronged in some way. A lot of times during their confrontation they deal with undertrained and/or apathetic employees. They only makes the customer even more pissed when they hop on here to vent.

Thank you for writing a lucid, valid complaint. I happen to agree that Blockbuster has cut many corners in training and the result is a significantly lower standard of customer service than should be expected. You will find that many of us who post here are in fact decent people who do understand the tenets of quality service, but are inhibited by the weight of Blockbuster's bad reputation and general ineffectiveness to lure and train quality labor. This is in fact what brought many of us here to begin with. The poor quality you have unfortunately seen repeatedly in your store is conducted by workers who obviously care very little about their profession (and hence wouldn't bother coming to a site like this). We at this site represent obviously a very small fraction of the Blockbuster employees in general (and we span at least three countries), but we are the demographic most keen about our jobs with Blockbuster and probably would have given you a much more satisfying experience if you were in any of our stores.

I actually no longer work for Blockbuster (this is the case with many here in fact), but I stick around because I've made friends on this forum and as Blockbuster was part of my life for nearly five years, I am still actively interested in its general proceedings.

I'm glad netflix is working out for you. We are each charged to secure our own contentment and you have found yours with netflix. I'm sad you're so angry about Blockbuster employees (I think "fucktards" was one of the words you used; "retards" was another) when for the most part, at the store I put myself into, I hold a very different opinion and, while I did work with a few people of such description, I was proud of the service standards upheld at my store -- this is why I took your comments in the other thread as judgment and not fact.

Like I said though, I appreciate that you have finally articulated your reason for what is probably a valid frustration, and I wish you well with netflix.

Like RK said, had you came into one of our stores, you probably would have been treated much differently.

At my store, this is what would have happened in your situation. Firstly, you wouldn't have got a free game out of it. But you would get an apology for the misunderstanding, and i'd tell you about some other promotions and promise you that what i'm telling you is correct, and i'd tell you to come to my register when you had finished. What you experienced was simply bad communication among the employees of that store, and you have every right to be irritated by that. Hell, I'd have been pissed, too.

But again, don't judge. Sorry for the experience.

There are some good employees at BBI. And the ones that post here are obvious. As are the arsehole employees that post here.

Its seems that Chris set this up to be a customer complaints site, but that side of the board didnt take off as well. From a customers point of view, they use this board to post their complaint, say they are never going back to BB again and after that what??? If they never use BB again, they have no reason to ever come back here and post about BB again.

Note that the employees part of the site was only ever ONE of the many forums, set up for the odd passing employee to defend the company if they wished to do so.

The fact is, the people that keep coming back again and again are the employees. This is because they have a common bond and a reason to come here - sharing information and greivences with other employees.

If the guy who originated this website is making money off it, why is that wrong? This is a good site, and I think it's so good because it speaks volumes as to what the real problem at Blockbuster is. THE CUSTOMER.
The customer made them do EOLF, the customer abused the return policies, movies didn't turn as much, and now they had raise the rental rates.
The customers decided to start going to netflix, and Blockbuster had to rush into the online biz to try and compete, and not lose market presence.
This in turn led to BB employees hocking online, and having money that should have been spent on the stores, being devoted to online. And than, because they don't like what the results of their actions have caused, the customers proceed to go into a store, and yell at an under paid, over worked employee who has no impact on their situation, and turn around and complain about the "service they get" when said person doesn't want to hear it. If you sit back and think about a business you enjoyed going to that is gone, 9 times out of 10, it probably closed because the customers got too greedy and demanding.

Minimum wage -- $5.15
"CSA" -- $5.15
"Senior CSA" (keyholder) -- $5.35
Manager -- presumably at least $6

But now minimum wage has gone up, and we've lowered our CSR pay to match it. :rolleyes: The situation, which has been well-documented on here, was always that if you were hired as a CSR at $6.50, the 15% raise you get for a promotion doesn't put you anywhere near the $10 that Joe Shiftleader from off the street would get. Only with the recent restructuring has this lowered a bit (hired a new ASM at $10 recently instead of $13).

I know for a fact that the ASM at my store makes $12.50/hr. Makes me jealous. Funny thing is, I was a CSR before my DL started trying to enforce that "no more than 20 hours a week" bullshit for the CSRs, and I was making starting pay with great paychecks. Now, as a manager, with almost three dollars more an hour, i'm actually making about even and sometimes less because I get less hours as a SL than I did as a CSR. :confused:

you can't eliminate hatred. it is a basic human emotion and there is no getting rid of it. we all have our resentments and as much as we may want to love everyone and have peace with our fellows, it can't always be so. The only appropriate, logical method to making the world (and ourselves) better (in my most humble opinion) is to accept our resentments for what they are- realize why we have them and carry on with life. I will always hate my ex-boyfriend who cheated on me with my best friend- but when i see him, i will be kind and offer him a smile. I will always hate george bush but, if i were to meet him, I would shake his hand and engage him in polite debate (if the circumstances permitted). I have a strong resentment towards white people- but i will welcome any man or woman - whatever their race or creed- to be my most dear of friends and treat them to a cup of tea. I am not plotting a genocide. i have no malicious intent. You posted something or other that wasn't appropriate, and some people got angry and (including me) and posted making fun of you and what appeared to be a sick, racist post.
You apologized and explained yourself, which is more than some people ever do. Some of us accept that, and others don't. I believe you meant no harm so I accept your apology, but I still don't understand your mentality -- but I don't care because hardly anyone ever understands mine anyway.

My advice is to just drop it. This will become a public lashing if you keep spotlighting the issue, simply because it will begin to annoy everyone, so we'll have a new reason to be angry. Even when nobody's angry, n00bs are generally stigmatized just because of the sheer number off irritating ones we have to deal with on a weekly basis. Post thoughtfully and contribute, and you'll shake your n00bity faster than an undergrad can prove the sum of two odd numbers is even. You're a little in the red from this whole circumstance, but you'll get out soon enough with time.

The reason Cowboy is a respected member is because he's loyal to his beliefs, his friends and his son, and he'll never sugarcoat anything he's trying to say. He's never deliberately antagonized anyone who hasn't swung first or been generally deserving of a flame, and he's always defended anyone who needed it. When Cowboy does decide to flame, he unleashes unholy hellfire, but that's just his way of doing things.

Do not assume that because of the name of the site that most of us hate our jobs. The regulars that are on here that are employee's do not hate their jobs, they just get frustrated and use the site to vent with people that know what they are going through. The rest of the regulars on here are former employees.....

Is BBV your first job? Because I can assure you that their are morans in every line of work - that we all make blunders that are painfully odivious to other people.

Agreed. I loved the customers and my employees, even the backstabbing ones, but corporate sucked ass.

i dislike the corporation side to BB, not the company itself. i've worked for larger retailers, Walmart being the most notable one, and i can guarantee you that working at Blockbuster entails a much better experience than many others. half of the people you have to work with at a Walmart can't actually speak english and Walmart even recognizes this by providing CVR evaluations (which is their equivalent of modules) in spanish. supervisors from different appointing crews are allowed to take authority over employees part of other crews, causing massive chaos and havoc. the policies and guidelines are way worse than BB, as they are pretty much conflicting with eachother. they all pretty much result to "ask the crew shift lead", who, if you can imagine, was most likely hiding in a corner as the hairs fell out of his/her scalp. most of all, the customer are the WORST. my boss used to call them 'thieves with money'.
