Dropping In-store Rentals in the Mailbox

Christ, has anyone else ever had this problem? When the newest promotion of the online ordeal started coming, people would see signs all over the store saying that "you can return your movies in the mail."

And almost every week, the mailman would come to the store and say that people had actually placed entire movies - in-store rentals, box and all - in the MAILBOX. OMG, I can't even believe it.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Haven't had that experience yet. Got to be some really dumb ones to do that, but of course look at some of our customer base.:rolleyes:

I have watched someone drop movies into the outside trash bin before, When he came in I informed him that if he didn't retrieve them they will be thrown away.

Now I'm wondering how many of the people who come in screaming and swearing up and down about the $10 Autosale on their account have done this. :-/

We even had a sign on our outside trash bin that said "TRASH ONLY" that was located next to the drop slot. Sure enough, a customer had dropped her movies in there, and they eventually autosold. After she called us complaining about the postcard notice she received in the mail, and the usual ignorant customer spiel of "I have 5 PhD's, my son is the head of neurosurgery at the county hospital, I have more money than you can imagine..." she admitted her own guilt by saying "I dropped it off in that container shaped like a garbage can out there" and we informed her that movies weren't to be dropped in there. After her dumb "How was I supposed to know" we politely told her "ummm the sign that says TRASH ONLY is a dead giveaway." Of course she went on with "You expect me to read that?" We just gave her the customer care number and put her account on hold with the message "NO RENTALS UNTIL SHE CAN LEARN HOW TO READ AND UNTIL SHE PAYS OFF THE BALANCE."

I gave him a dirty look and he held up a couple movies either trying to say there's a problem with them or where do I put them. I motioned towards the drop box but he didn't understand. So the dumbass just set them on the ground outside the door!

I hate people like that - they think that just because they attempted to return the movies, they are off the hook. If we call them saying they were never returned, they think that by saying, "I set them on the ground outside your store at 2am because you weren't open" is going to convince us to remove any fees from their account.

and then it's all our fault.we don't get them returned in the mail or the garbage but poeple do like toleave them on the counter just as they walk in ,if I catch them doing it I say something but when we're busy at times there are random stacks of movies around ,which gets confusing and annoying.drop boxes are there for a reason , why is that so hard to understand?

I was going to say that you should have left them out there and put a warning on his account about what he did... but then I realized you would have to look up the movie to know what his account is. And all hell would break lose if he came back and you told him about his autosales and he's like, "Wait a minute... YOU SAW ME SET THEM DOWN OUTSIDE!"

Of course, you'd say, "...doesn't that make it your fault?" And he'd probably say, "Look, I returned your movies on time, to your store." And he's the type of person who sticks to his side, so no matter how hard you try to convince the person that setting them outside of the store is not the same as returning them into the dropbox, he'll never change his mind.

Had a similar customer like that who thought that the buy-2-get-1-free deal should apply to autosales. He's all like, "Well, these 2 movies auto-sold to my account, so I'm entitled to a free movie." I'm like, "What? What are you talking about?" He tried it twice on me -- not in same visit, but two different days he tried to convince me about this. Each time he was with his family and was all, "The sign says this, this, and this." And I'm shaking my head, "You're an idiot..."
