View Full Version : Netflix VS Blockbuster TA: The Great Debate

June 11th, 2007, 11:56 AM
While there are critics of both services, I was once a proud Netflix member until I switched over to BB TA. While there are some that aren't aware of the difference between the two, let me play Devil's Advocate and give examples.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A MOVIE IS SCREWED UP, IS BROKEN, OR A MOVIE IS SENT THAT SKIPPED OVER YOUR OTHER MOVIES?

NETFLIX: Netflix told me that they cannot offer any credits for a movie that is shipped, regardless if your movie was skipped. They refused. The terms "Available" seem to throw me off, thinking the movie is available, when in truth, it's not. If a movie is broken, if you hassle them, they're more than reluctant to give you a credit, however, you're still having to wait for the DVD.

BLOCKBUSTER: Anytime a problem arose, which is at least once or twice a month, they ask me whether or not I want a credit or a e-coupon, redeemable @ any BB store. Of course I'm a coupon nut so I opt for the coupons. They sent the wrong movie to someone else's address and I got eight coupons. I came close to ending my BB account and they in turn sent me six coupons for a broken DVD set.

CUSTOMER SERVICE?

NETFLIX: Consistent waiting times, sometimes rude people. They never want to credit anything unless you get mad and toot your horn.

BB: Consistent waiting times, average customer service. I've had to talk to the supervisor on duty because the scripts they're reading aren't accurate or they don't know what the hell their talking about.

DVD ARRIVALS?

NETFLIX: When I signed up, they came quick. Then they started coming in slower and slower, until finally I gave up.

BB: Same applied here, until I complained. My distribution center is 60 miles away, DVD's have been arriving on time for the most part. If they don't, I do call.

NETFLIX'S NEW PROMO

The deal: $5 a month (2 DVD's, 3 movies on your computer)

The beef: The movie quality sucks, I'm sorry, and you're stuck watching it on your PC. While there are some that have a Windows Media Center, I have a Mac. I don't connect the laptop up to the TV. I'd rather have the DVD. The movies are streamed and are often jagged, depending on your ISP connection. On a T1 line, which I tested, the movies streamed great, although the quality isn't all that great. On a DSL/Cable connection, which I tested, there is a lot of pauses, similar to the waiting times for a YouTube short.

BOTTOM LINE:

Netflix isn't a bad company, BB TA does have MORE to offer, in terms of screw up or mistakes. While there are people who come into BB and hate being sales pitched, this can be used as a guide to educate people as it is the truth. Nothing here is a lie, I've experienced the horror show known as Netflix.

We don't need another thread discussing the service between the 2.

We actually have this very thread somewhere already. I remember someone signed up with both services and gave us a play by play, comparing features and drawbacks from each service in juxtaposition.

Yeah, that was me. (http://www.ihateblockbuster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7072)

EDIT: For the record, I canceled BBO and still have Netflix. I'd like to go back to BBO, because it would be really nice to be able to just bring my movies back to work with me, but every time I start I new anime series, BBO doesn't have it, or it's Very Long Wait.

Honestly, I didn't realize new threads upset people and for that I'm sorry. I'm just a newbie trying to land in BB land, with hopes to learn from all of you whom are out there. Next time, I'll just post where it's needed. I read a lot of the "we don't give a fuck" comments and so forth, it's okay. I hope all of you enjoy your day.

Nah, I don't want to do debate it, I'm a member there as well :) . I hate Netflix, they're a con artist company. TA has been good to me. Nuff said.

Laugh... are you saying that because you work at BB (going to) or because you actually believe it through experience? I don't have a problem with Netflix. They're just another customer trying to pull a profit (and I think they've succeeded, where as BB has yet to make BBO profitable.)

But I don't hate BBO either. I've used both services. I'd use both again.

Wow.

Three in a row.

So, why, exactly, do you think that NetFlix is a con, but yet TA (that wonderful money-losing service that is probably going to cost you your job, but, hey, at least the general public will stop using NetFlix.... we hope) is the Word of God??

For what??

For flirting with someone that I might actually have a chance of meeting someday soon?? Instead of showing absolutely no inclination to close the deal and get out of my comfort zone??

Or something even more basic than that?? All I can do is wonder.....
