Ever notice lately all the new releases are "Uncut and Unrated"? My local BB has 15 Talladega Nights and every single one is the Uncut/Unrated version. Having 2 kids 12 and 9 it would be nice if there were a Rated version I could watch. Same with Miami Vice and increasingly more and more of only the Uncut/Unrated versions. Would it kill them to get a few rated ones as well. Blockbuster is turning into an adults only video store IMO  .

For the most part, the whole "Uncut and Unrated" trend is a huge marketing scheme. Very rarely are the theatrical and DVD versions different enough to warrant such a label.

Also, Miami Vice was rated R to begin with. Surely you're not suggesting that Blockbuster should edit the film for a softer rating? They've gotten flak for that in the past and really, it's disgusting that they would actually do such a thing.

Yeah, the added scene in the "unrated" version of Miami Vice where Sonny and Rico have sweaty butt sex should have definitely have been left out. That made the movie even shittier. No pun intended.

Don't worry. You are mistaken, so rest easy. Take BB's ever growing family section as indication that children are still allowed in the store, i.e. it's not adult only and there are no visible plans to make it so.

Also, Unrated doesn't automatically mean NC-17. It just means that there are scenes that have been added into the DVD release that were not included in the theatrical release, thus the movie as it is on DVD was not rated by the MPAA.

Most of the time, it is nothing really bad - nothing, I should say, that would drastically change its rating if rated by the MPAA.

As with most movies, you should probably watch the movie yourself first and see if it is appropriate for your children. And also, like someone else said, most movies that come out with "Unrated" versions are PG-13 and up, so not so much child appropriate anyway.

Not only that, but sometimes the parts that made the movie "Unrated" are in the bonus features. Or the DVD has the option to play both verisons.

Exactly.

I do think it's confusing for parents - I have had at least two mothers come up to me and express the same frustration, and I tell them the same thing. I wish there was a site where we could direct them to let them know what the unrated exactly means. I've searched on the internet, and haven't been able to find much.

The whole ratings system is a giant farce anyways, the ratings are done by a group of people whose names are kept private, and there are NO guidelines for how they set ratings whatsoever.

Yup I could just see dialog at the register:

CSR: Find everything all right, sir?
Customer: Sure did, thanks.
CSR: So that's Adam and Eve: Unfigged for you tonight?
Customer: Er. Yeah (shh). So is it any good by the way?
CSR: Well, I tell ya. She asked for just a rib. He gave her a bone!

:o ;)
(and yes I know I'm recycling that humor which I'm sure I posted before (http://www.ihateblockbuster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5802&page=6#54).. It's my future porn movie, what can I say)

I have to agree here.

Most "unrated" movies are ones that RESPONSIBLE parents shouldn't be letting their pre-teens watch, anyway. So, the argument is just kinda moot, don'cha think??

To the OP: Return to your bridge, Troll!!!;)

Be lucky that I am out of rep right now.....

Oh, *yawn*. Remember, the 'family' is made up of more than just kids. Don't you and your wife ever fancy watching a bit of smut when the kids are out?

If you can't make money in porn, something is seriously wrong.

And have you ever seen the people in the porn industry?? (in front of, and especially behind the camera). Many of them are not fully evolved yet;)

Cust: Who selects the movies to be put on the wall?
Me: Movies are released every Tuesday... what is sent to us is what we put on the wall. Is there anything you were looking for?
Cust: Well who selects the movies?
Me: What do you mean?
Cust: These movies are to vulgar and inappropriate to be on the shelves.
Me: Well im sorry, but we have no control over what is sent to us.
Cust then storms out of the store with nothing.

Usually there is only 1 version of a film released on dvd/bluray, which tends to be the unrated one since scenes are added in after the theatrical run thus meaning that the new cut of the film is unrated, although not neccessarily more graphic or anything. Also, BBI don't control what films come out, or the rating of them. It's up to you to chose what movies you want from the selection.
