In my town it seems that every single person that lives there does not own a Blu-Ray player. I don't know about you guys, but I ask every single person that brings one up, "Do... you own a Blu-Ray player....?" Silence follows my question and then the customer brings up a question of their own, "What the hell is a Blu-Ray player?! Are you trying to sell me more shit because I've already reluctantly signed up for your "REWARDS" program, and I'm not happy with it!" As I sit through the bullshit I go into depth about how I was trying to save them from anger when the customer goes home and pops one of those disks into the DVD player and, WAIT A MINUTE! It doesn't work!! Then they call the store arguing that the disk is broken and what not. I was so pissed off about the whole issue that some kid came in to rent Hellboy on Blu-Ray that I told him that his DVD player would blow up. The reaction and the look on his face was priceless. Utter fear and terror that I could see in his eyes and his facial expression.
Now moving forward, the people that do own a PS3 or a over expensive player seem to think that I am insulting their intelligence by asking them the question, "Do you people possess a Blu-Ray player?" They reply, "Yeeeesssssssss.....? we do own a PS3, you don't need to ask that everytime we come in." I am thinking,"Well, seeing as though we have about 13 employees and thousands of customers, I can't seem to remember your fucked up face everytime you come in, dumbass."

I recently asked a customer if she had a blu-ray player when she brought one up.

She hesitated for a moment then said yes.

I got the feeling she wasnt sure and I told her if she had one she would know, and a blu-ray wont play in a standard DVD player. She then says she definately has one. I say ok fine, but if it turns out she doesnt this was her chance to get the right one.

I warned her account with "she has a blu-ray player"

She came in the next day saying I gave her the wrong movie.

First how would this be possible? People get the movies they want and bring them up to us. If it isnt the one they want that is there problem.

Anyway, I told her I wouldnt be able to exchange it or credit it for her since we already tried to fix it and she wasnt interested. I was then told by her I was giving her horrible customer service and she doesnt see how I can still work there, I didn't feel like arguing with her so at that point I just stared at her with my head cocked ever so slightly to the side...

Btw, Pron, there is already a thread for topics like this...

Put a warning on the account of those customers that do have a blu-ray player, this way it reduces the number of times you ask them if they have a blu-ray player. Also, put your blu-ray BSI and New Release right by your PS3 section, it will help those that do have the proper player to get the product.

But yeah, zoo's right -- it's part of the job.

lol, I know, I'm not super pissed off at all I just think it's pretty funny how most of the customers don't read the box or see the giant Blu-Ray sign. Just where I'm from, Larry the Cable Guy movies and the rest of the Blue-Collar-Comedy-Bullshit are the most rented of all the films in the entire store.
In other words, redneck country, so I'm just telling you guys what's up.;)

I had a clueless customer come in about 2 weeks ago.

It went something like this...
Cust: Can you tell me where the HD movies are?

Me: Eh?..... We don't stock HD Titles here sir. We have do Blu-Ray however.

Cust: That's stupid. You guys are Stupid! I don't know why you are carrying Blu-Ray? I just bought myself an HD player. They got cheap now over at The Targets. (The Targets? yeah that how he said it). HD players are cheaper now and Blu-Ray is still too expensive. No one is going to spend that kind of money. HD is more popular anyway. Everything is in HD even the news!

Me: Sir, not trying to come off rude by telling you this... but, HD disc are going out. No one is stocking them anymore. Wal-Mart/Best Buy.. No one. If you find some Movies for your HD Player,.. you better buy them..because after they clearance off what's left in inventory.. finding titles will be hard. All the major studios have abandoned this format.

Cust: You are stupid mother fucker. HD is the whats in. I just got an HD TV and HD cable. Everything is HD now! You been living under a rock. You don't carry HD here that's too bad. You'll be out of business soon.

Me: I give up. Good luck with your new player sir. *I walk off*

It's a useless fight.

"Huh, I wonder what this separate section here is. It seems to start with A and go to Z within the course of three bays. The shelves are all blue, and it has toppers and each movie says Blu-Ray Disc. Clearly this must just be where all the best new releases are."

Not even -- that's way more cerebral than any of our customers.

"Where's Roscoe Jenkins?"
"It's on the new release wall, but it's actually Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins... so, all the way at the very end of the wall" (and I point as well).
A minute later I see the customer looking confused near approximately the Rs.

"Do you have Untouchables on Blu-ray?"
"Yeah, there's two of them out there."
"I couldn't find it."

THERE'S ONLY ONE AISLE OF BLU RAY BSI. YOU WERE RIGHT THERE. THEY'RE IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER!!!!

He walks back over and starts looking at the As in the blu-ray section. Fucking goddamn retards, all of them.

If that was me Id just walk away if someone had a go... either that or just have a go back. :D

Had one guy a few months back bring back two preowned bluray that he had bought a month ago. Saying that they didnt work on his DVD player. Fair enough any other person who had a vaid receipt I wouldnt of had much of a problem. But this guy 1) had no reciept and 2) this guy is in the store every saturday and hardly ever buys anything.

So I refused, and out comes the 'whats the point of giving a 6 month guarantee if youre not going to honour it?!" etc etc after being called all the names under the sun including a 're......tard' (said also like that) I just laughed and said get out. He said he knew my manager very well and would get me fired!! Go ahead my friend...

Havnt seen him since :D

Well it looks like all it would take is a simple explanation that broadcast HD is an entirely different thing than the HD DVD format. It's clear to me he just mistakes the whole realm of high def as one homogeneous concept.

An informative explanation might make him realize his purchasing error before the return deadline at "the Targets" so he can replace it for a Blu-ray player and start bringing you the revenue he so badly seems to want to transact.

I agree with you answer... however, this guy was being a total jerk.. his tone of voice.. everything. I am not going out of my way to educate this dumb redneck. He can learn the hard way. He is lucky I did not throw him out for loudly dropping the F-Bomb in my store. and to call me stupid? when he is in the wrong? Fuck him.

As someone who sells cable, let me tell you, there is nothing simple about the explanation.

Wouldn't it be much more easier to not say a thing about it being Blu-Ray and then pointing out to customers who bring them back angry that they consciously picked up a rental box with a shorter DVD cover and a huge (1/4th) label that reads "Blu-Ray Disc"? I find that the customers whom I ask "Do you have a Blu-Ray player?" and reply "What's that?", followed by me explaining the situation, seem to somehow pick up Blu-Ray discs again and again. Even after specifically explaining how to differentiate between Blu-Ray and DVD. Forcing them to take the hit seems much better when it comes to a learning experience.

Well.............

1] You eat a credit you could of avoided

2] You would give them a memorable movie night. Albeit a negative memorable night. Isnt loyalty built on positive? Shouldnt the goal be going out of your way to make a positive impression?

Very odd and misguided thought process you have young man.

When they (inevitably) do it again, I warn them to stay away from the bluray section. Just skip the whole blue part.

See, I'm not perfect for retail :(

I totally hate the ignorant. Maybe it's because I spend way too much damn time reading up on the latest news (especially tech and current events), but I hate having to explain such a simple concept like Blu-Ray (and then hear my coworkers say "It only works on PS3") over and over again. I'll specifically point out how to tell that a box contains a Blu-Ray disc opposed to a DVD. Nicely. And you know what? Half of these people keep coming up with Blu-Ray discs and not caring.

It's fine if they're elderly, but when you have thirtysomethings totally ignorant about technology that really bugs me.

TL;DR - Compatibility. Learn it. Watch Blackbuster Critic's videos. Rofl.

WTF is so hard about this?
They just want a movie, so help them and inform them.
