Customers Say the DARNEDEST Things Part 3 (merged again) got locked... Sadface.

Just curious of various stories. Been lurking these parts and finally decided to post.

I've only been with the company for a year (a year too long), so I'm sure those of you veterans (god save your soul) have some good stories.

1) Last night (Sunday) was busy as hell for us. Made over 3k closing shift. We had a rather long lull in the customers, so I sent my csr on break. AS SOON as she left... over 50 customers decide they're ready to check out. So, being a manager, I decide to go for it - and let my csr have her break. I'm pumping through this line, which is growing longer now - halfway down the right side of our new release wall when a lady comes up and asks me where a movie is "Prom night". Not having time to tell her my antiquated opinion on the film, I simply had time to say "New release wall under 'P' for Prom night" only to have her hold up the line further by asking "Where is the new release wall?". I didn't have time to really show here where the movie was, so I resorted to being somewhat of an ass under the circumstances. I turned to her, and in front of this monstrous line of customers I said "You know, walls. One of the four that typically hold up a building? It's on one of those in alphabetical order." Got a few chuckles out of the line, but the lady... as dense as a brick wall... just looks at me and goes "So.... where?". I swear, I had no idea people could BE this stupid.

Anyways, brain me if I wasn't supposed to post this.

On a daily basis, I'm sarcastic to customers - even down to the little things: "Do I have to pay for this movie before I leave?" - "Oh, no. We just give them to people now. If they bring them back, it's cool. If not, oh well." I figured if it's disguised as an attempt at humor, the person will laugh - even if they don't get it.
Makes me wonder about comics.....

Anyways, please share some stupid stories.

P.S.

Store recently had about 1500$ worth of game merch stolen - out of the blue locked amaray cases. I don't care who does it, 'cause it's blockbusters money, but can anyone pm me a link or instructions on how people do this? We just got a new SM, and I'd rather not see him fired for negligence as he's a cool guy.

ok, ghostnic whomeveryouare............if part 3 is locked, why don't you go check out Customers say the DARNDEST things! (Part 4) and post in there. I know that would defeat the purpose of your ghostnic, but it would make life so much easier for the rest of us...

or perhaps this is palisades come back to haunt us???

Let me paraphrase above for those who dont want to read it all. Written as it should of been said by OP.

Hi I am dumb and cant find the actual working thread.

1] Grossly exaggerated story..blah blah, yada yada

P.S. now that i'm at my real point, please teach me how to steal from you. Giving me this information will do nothing to help me deter theft and has nothing to do with SM negligence, just my own.

Because when I searched for the string "Customers say the darndest things" it came up with nothing past part 3 -_-

Actually, it was exactly what I posted - it was about loss prevention, but you're welcome to move away from the actual subject to rag on me if you feel like it.

The only thing you can do is
1. put POGs in lockable display cases
...but they're still subvertible
2. make POGs dead; do the Game Stop envelope thing and keep the discs behind the counter
...but that makes them even easier for employees to steal.

Neither solution will be approved by your DL so you'll have to do it without his knowledge. Good luck.

We have good employees... It's mainly the customers. Today, I found two GTA4's - one for ps3 and the other for x360 also missing - bringing our total to around 1600$. They were all in the blue amaray cases... Cases were locked, but games were gone.

Curious thing is that the double locked ones (yeah... someone double locked them) were not broken into, and most (around 80% of the shrink wrapped retail) was not messed with. Only PoG and around 20% of the shrink wrapped retail - which makes me think it was probably a first time offender.

Thanks for the advice, sorry for posting a sarcasm topic. Although the direction this seems to be going towards means it's in the wrong section now...

Oh, no, it'd certainly never be the employees, with their ability to unlock blue locks.

Make them all dead games, that is what we did at my store...no missing games at all, also, put them in a Cd case binder, makes it harder if u dont trust ur employees, they have to flip through a book to find what they want

Yeah, I understand the skepticism, but it's just I don't see it happening. Doesn't mean it's not (as our store is a bit.... archaic with the security cams.) but, they're a good bunch....

Unfortunately, the day this was noticed (Sunday 8/31) My csr was on break - I was dealing with a monster of a line. So, it's technically my fault I wasn't able to watch (if they were even stolen then) but we always run short on hours. We don't have a way to keep someone out on the floor during peaks (usually gross 6-7k on friday/saturday nights.)

Make them all dead games, that is what we did at my store...no missing games at all, also, put them in a Cd case binder, makes it harder if u dont trust ur employees, they have to flip through a book to find what they want

Yeah, as soon as I found them, I had my CSR (one of the best ones) hold down the line while I grabbed all the retail (PoG and Retail) and sorted through it. Told my SM about it, and decided to put all our retail in a cabinet behind the counter - anything 34.99+ (which seems to be what they're going after... but not blu-ray for some reason...) This way, if it goes missing, it's internal theft for sure. Plus, we have cameras facing the front.

I appreciate the help. Seriously. I realize I probably came off a bit naive - but I was legitimately trying to figure out what the hell was going on >.<"

Ah well. We have inventory tonight... I hope that's the only loss...

P.S. I'm only a 4-star... but the the wonderful world of training I was thrown into did not include the fact that the SM before this one knew less than our entry-level csr's. So... my bb education is a bit of a hodge-podge.... Yay for inconsistency! Basically know how to be an SM - just without the common sense :-/

EDIT: Off the phone with SM - he thinks as you do HK: employee theft is a huge possibility with him. Either way, hope we can resolve this.

I had this customer come in and we were discussing the possible new rental policy and I told him how it was "people abused the policy by keeping stuff out for 30 days and then only paid 1.25" he said he was an avid criminal when it came to that stuff...
on his way out he said, "Hopefully it's not soon...sorry for ruining it for everyone!" haha

ha

the amount of phone complaints i get is untrue, had this one customer, seemed a nice man with his daughter, came every weekend, return a box without disc. So im printing the latecalls and this comes up with the no disc comment and all that so i ring him and remind him again, bearing in mind the last call wasn't answered when the disc was first returned.

Me: (nice and polite) Just reminding you about ya dvd (or along the lines)

customer: oh well thanks

Me: nicely tells him he owes 4 pounds on return (so he can get it ready) and to warn him so he doesn't say i didnt tell him

Customer: 4 pounds?! and whys that

Me: well you didn't return the dvd and its two days late

CUstomer: and your only ringing now

Me: well no we rang when the box was returned

Customer: and what about yesterday

Me: No Answer

Customer: and today?

Me: (well what the f**k am i suposed to say) im ringing you now (deadpan)

Customer: forget what he says, says i spoke to him like he was a kid, even though im 20..

and he comes in all righteous, asks if it was me who phoned, you know the rest, collegue wipes fine after customer threatens with customer services against me haha. customer happy. i will personally make sure i make it awkward as f**k in future for him to rent a single thing in store

First off... watch your language. You're a prick and no one likes you.

Second of all... you're the reason why I hate people and employees are "sarcastic" to customers because of pricks like you. We're nice to nice people. Once again... you're a prick.

Third... Try working at BB for 3 years, and dealing with people like you: Pricks. Then we can talk.

Yeah, I'm hella nice to customers. But sometimes some of them really drive me looney! But when I talk back, its ultra fun to say things they wouldnt understand. This one short fat lady was yelling at me because she lost her onlines in the store, and she couldnt find them, and she wanted me to help, but she lost them hours ago and didnt realize it and she already paid for her rentals hours ago. I got fed up and was like "Look Lady, someone made off with your onlines, nothin we can do about it, dont you have a defense of the dark arts class to teach Professor Umbridge?"

You know many many times there never are enough employees at any BB store. With hours having to be cut or it just being too busy that all employees have to stay up front to check out. Our DM is always complaining that we need more ppl on the floor but how can we. She just made the SM cut 3 employees and cut our hrs back so much that 4 days out of the wk only 3 ppl work ALL day and night. Then when things get stolen she is mad. What can we do? Our store is the largest one in our region. We have learned that if things get stolen we just shrug our shoulers and go on with the millions of projects we are suppose to get done. Now I don't want someone replying to this saying that 'you can do better' or 'I can do better' crap like that.

Know what I love??!! When a customer comes up, I ask if they found everything all right, then I ask "Do you have your BB card or a photo id?" Then the customer says, "No but I have my driver's license." DUUUUHHHHH
