Please read and help me out with feedback...
Customer walks in, has asked 3 employees of Blockbuster the same question...Has gotten three different answers...
So why is Katt Williams newest DVD on the shelf? 1.Is it stolen alot? The morning of its release? In an upper class neighborhood? 2.Not enough copies available? 3. It was, but is being re-shelved?What other movies have been sold or rented in this manner? I have never experienced this before except for Straight Outta Compton cassette, 2 Live Crew cassette, and Richard Pryor's albums....Oh Andrew the Diceman CD also. But at a movie rental, I have never seen this happen. I dont want to imply racism...cancel my membership...but I need some feedback from others. If you have seen the DVD, it can make some uncomfortable, but thats comedy...so what..black/white, men/women, little penis/big one..etc. I need some reassurance, and some justification that american values are not being abused by this action...and most americans like to read the back of a DVD before they choose it and älso look at the back of the cereal box when they eat cereal.

umm i have no idea what you are talking about but at my store, Katt Williams was behind the counter for the first week for worry that it would be a a high-theft title.
and the movie is hilarious. i only wish there were more copies available.

Same here, in fact it helped us sell them, now up to 60 copies, and OP it will get stolen.

I went into my local BBV and I saw them sitting dangerously close to the front door. The same front door that has seen almost as much outgoing traffic as incoming when I was there. I hope by the weekend this was corrected.

The sell through actually came with a floor stand, which I promptly threw in the dumpster.

Probably because you talk about yourself in the third person and freak the employees out.
So why is Katt Williams newest DVD on the shelf?
I assume you mean why is it NOT on the shelf, the answer to which is:
CUZ PEOPLE BE STEALIN' DAT SHIT YO.
What other movies have been sold or rented in this manner?
Anything Katt Williams or anything like Katt Williams.
I dont want to imply racism...
Actually, "Larry the Cable Guy" was always much less frequently stolen than, say, "Shottas" at my store, for what that's worth.
cancel my membership...
Gladly.

Sorry, your fellow customers ruined it for you.

Nope, in fact DM asked where it was, "in the dumpster". And I explained why, although it didn't help much , but I still keep it behind the counter. Now have sold 70 copies and none stolen!

You know what tho, Jim Keyes stresses a merchant mentality, yet, everytime we do something beneficial to the store, it looks really good, and increases TNR, the DM comes in rips it down and doesnt even care if I have the paper work and numbers to back up the increase and whats worse is,that the display or merchant thing we did, was extra to what the map was supposed to be, and the map was set.

....everytime we do something beneficial to the store, it looks really good, and increases TNR, the DM comes in rips it down and doesnt even care if I have the paper work and numbers to back up the increase....One would think that common sense would prevail here in the case of the DM. If they really cared about numbers and the bottom line, they could encourage a little variation in order to cater to your specific market. And who knows their store's market better than the SM?
When I used to set the endcaps by the MAP, I remember thinking that it was a waste of time because very few, if any of those movies would sell.... and I was right for the most part. IMHO the MAP should be a guide but not a hard and fast rule as to how you merchandise.

From what I understand most of the end caps are studio specific, I think we have an agreement to stock them as per studio for pricing. Still doesn't mean they will sell.

i agree that they don't sell all that well. we have a an "employee fav" endcap that my SM set up in our store and that thing sells like crazy.

to the OP:
What we in the blockbuster world, call high shrink stores, are allowed to merchandise their products based on their demographics. Its not racist at all, its called protecting company assets. It's the area they are in, not the color of their customer's skin.

Do like us, keep the rentals off to the side, and have sell thru displayed on the counter. We have now sold 80 copies this way.
