I don’t know if this has been posted before, if so I apologize. But is there any communication about peek shifts? Is there a rule written for peeks? Is it true it’s mandatory for the store manager to work there peeks?

I'm guessing a peek shift is where the employees stand in front of customers with their hands over their faces saying "where'd I go? Wherrre'd I go?" in patronizing voices.

also, i wish people would learn the difference between there, their and they're and where each is used!

but to answer the OP's question....

actually i can't answer the OP's question, unless they want to know what the score is with peak shifts in the UK.

It is actually an unwritten rule, but a cooperate communication awhile back through the RDO's that you have to work at least 5 peak shifts during a 4 week period and 6 during a 5 week period. I have seen several managers get wrote up for not doing this even if you had an emergency. Of course it depends on how hard your DM and RDO is on you too.

I don't know if it is a company wide issue, but my DL makes the SM's work 'X' number of peak shifts a period.

up here in Canadaland it's minimum 2 peaks a week with one being a Friday or Saturday.

well whatever the rule is, it explains why the past week my SM has been working every evening shift. our usually slow days have been extremely busy.

Ok how about the District Managers, don't they have to do peak shifts too?

My district manager takes Saturday and Sundays off.

Although ours does go around at least once a month during the peak shift for store visits.

Sometimes a CUT will give info on additional peaks. Like the day before Christmas there was a mandatory peek shift to be worked but that was a "pick the busiest time of day..." blah blah.

my DM rarely makes the visits to our store because it's pretty much on top of stuff but when she does, we absolutely HATE IT. all the attention gets thrown on her suddenly and she starts blabbering about small stuff like uneven NR title placements. she actually came in last night w/ 2 other store managers, both of which i'm sure felt bad for us because there were at least 11 customers in line and of the 3 able to work, 1 (the ASM) was stuck having to trail behind the DM while she blabbered away.
