is my district the only one pushing the new 2 soda, 1 popcorn bucket for $4.99 promotion? i want to know because i have a serious problem with it: i'm not in the business to jip customers.

it's been selling fairly easy, most likely because the $2.22 soda display has been taken down and replaced with the new promotion. we have to keep track of them like presales/rewards so, of course, i do my job and try to sell as much as i can. but after selling 7 on my own last night, i suddenly realized i had jipped customers each time.

sodas still come up in the system at 2 for $2.22. popcorn buckets are $2.49 each. together, they are 4.71 (no tax on food in my city). the promotion adds a random 28 cents to that total. so i made Blockbuster an extra $1.96 off of a promotion that adds no worth last night. if i were to sell that much every shift i worked last week, that would be nearly $8. if every CSR at my store were to do the same, the total would be roughly $50 a week.

i wonder what Blockbuster plans to do with the extra $50 coming in every week. new uniforms maybe?

You can't factor in a discounted price of sodas into that. The value of those goods would really be

2 x 1.49
+ 2.49
---------
5.47

Otherwise it's kind of like complaining that movies are 3 for 20 but you can't get one for $6.66. Yes, it's a promotion. Additionally, the point of these bundles is to move additional goods, so perhaps they might have only bought 2 of the 3 items otherwise. As far as what's Blockbuster going to do with its revenue, how about not go bankrupt.

Well, it's not a problem if you consider the sodas to sell at their single price, even though the savings then is just a few cents. Also, I've never known the computer to add money to a promotion. But I'll look into this today. Whether or not it's wrong depends on if we still have any 2/2.22 signage up. If we don't, then that promotion isn't valid and the computer is doing it as a mistake.

Okay, we don't have any 2/$2.22 signage up, so technically you do save money with the deal. It's not wrong, it's just cheap and lame, which is no different than the average BB promotion.

Unless the price of popcorn has gone up, customers save a whole $.19!

sure, at the original 1.49 singular pricing, there is an actual discount.

but if you scan 2 sodas first and hit total, the discounted price rings up @ 2.22 still. if you hit total again and add a popcorn bucket, the total becomes $4.71. i had this naturally occur when customers purchased 2 sodas, at which i suggested the promotion for an extra popcorn, hitting below the actual 4.99 amount.

Solution: Don't do that.

its not lame per say...its lame that our DM made all these signs for us to put all over the new release wall telling people the price of 3 or 2 movie rentals with the popcorn and 2 sodas, and signs for the core...i told him i wasnt doin it all over the wall..people don;t read the amrays on the wall...so i took the popcorn..some hot sodas...and made a bay on the wall...with the signs..

I agree, but do you really have that much room on your wall, I can't even fit a full bay of movies right now.

we probably could dedicate a bay to promote but they get torn apart in no time, especially on the NR wall. even after taping down our red "just arrived" slips, they get collected by animals and glued together with gum every once in a while. we had to start a timer at the front of the store that signals one of us to take a walk around the store every 5 minutes just because of this.

its all because of the rev share agreements guys...the studio's mandate when we can pull the stuff off the shelves-either to destroy it or prp it.

rev share is retarded, destroying 1000 movies certified at one time takes upwards of 4 hours for one employee to do and if you span that across what 6000 stores, you have 24000 hours wasted, now, max pay for any employee hourly is 15 dollars an hour and minimum is going to be no lower than 7 in any state, so lets just say that the pay is 8 dollars an hour to each of these employees just because most of them are not making 15, so at 8 dollars an hour and 24000 hours the company is spending around 192000 dollars to destroy dvds almost every week, more if a manager does it. i think that time and money could be devoted to helping customers and they should make the dms do the work, seeing as how all my district manager can do is call us and harass us about our sales figures. heck, when one of my current employees reported a former store manager for clocking in and leaving then coming back and clocking out, the store manager told him that he was "working at home" and that was sufficient for him, he didnt even investigate, heck the guy runs some of our conference calls now.

I detest certifieds. It's such a damn waste of time, esp. when "Hey, are you getting rid of those? Can I have some?"

my district did the popcorn bundle. i think we are still doing it, i dont think it's a rip off because th tubs are like $2.16 plus the sodas... comes to more than $4.99 if you think about it. but in NY we tax on everything... lol
