I signed up for Blockbuster rewards program at the beginning of the year so I could rent one blu-ray disc and get one free to watch on the new blu-ray player I got for Christmas. I show up today at my local Blockbuster and they tell me they were notified that the rewards program no longer applies to blu-ray discs. Holy moly, I was pissed. Currently the only place in the Burlington area to rent blu-ray discs and the pull this crap. I am very pissed. Time for a class action lawsuit.

not that i am saying that i don't agree with you...
but the rewards packet says..we as a company reserve the rights to change the terms and agreements to the program as we see fit.
no lawsuit for you.

hahahaha good luck with that dude. Tell that to the people working at the store you visit and see what they say.

Yeah, obviously there's not going to be any lawsuit, but it does suck. With Redboxes popping up everywhere it would seem excruciatingly obvious that Rewards and Bluray are two giant, giant incentives to keep customers coming back.
As to why they're actually doing it, it's because not enough profit's been made on BD yet (they're probably not thinking too far ahead since BD players flew off the shelves in Q4) and they're cutting costs EVERYWHERE.

I wasn't too happy to find this out last night either, I used this as a selling point to get my Blu-ray customers to sign up. Man they are not gonna be happy with me now. *sigh*

sure the coupon credit may have a value in the bbv system, but cutting that as a benefit of rewards is only going to make a good chunk of people rent less and is a much greater loss in the long run.
see, i hate how corporate is making the good aspects of the business less enjoyable/available and go through the idiotic trouble of providing us with options that don't boost revenue at all. one recent example: sending us 100s of really old black BSI for black history month. oh COME ON!

Oh for the love of God.....you only paid $10 bucks for the Rewards membership!
Get over it, I swear I have never seen so many babies in my life than the customers at our stores.
Everyone thinks that we should give them every rental they come in and beg for FREE!!!
Look around, every company in America right now is cutting benefits and jobs. Why would you think that this company is any different?

It's obvious you didn't read you Rewards packet, about the right to change without notice. And also the refund you can get on your rewards.
I do think this will hurt a little bit, but not much. Being most Bluray renters rent mostly NR.

When I discuss Bluray with customers I try to mention older titles that look great in HD. Being able to say those titles could be free with Rewards was a big help in getting people to go out to the middle shelves where they fear to tread, not to mention the boost in Rewards itself.
So I'm not going to sell Rewards to BD renters anymore. Simple as that.

I was really annoyed by that change to the program. I feel like we lied to a lot of people when we signed them up. We start a drive & then change a benefit after selling 100, or whatever. Plus blu-ray will continue to expand, so you would think they would consider them free BSI eventually... so why not now? I don't know I think it's a dumb change.

Holy crap wtf blockbuster! Shit like that is why I was so happy to leave.
Every single god damn promotion is like,
"Do this, get this free!
*Does not apply to Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, or Z."
It became IMPOSSIBLE to explain any promotion or policy because for every positive there were like 12 negative exceptions.

that is a good point though. they drove us to sell so much and as soon as we hit those numbers, they change one of the benefits that we SOLD customers on. so we're going to have several customers who barely reaped the benefits of being a rewards member come back and regret having gotten rewards in less than a month.

I'm with antithesys. It's a sucky thing for them to do. I understand that BD isn't very profitable right now, but "Total Blockbuster Experience" right? If they bit the bullet for a little while they could make a lot of money and probably sell more BD stuff. I know we could in my store that way.

I talked to an old friend who is still at bbv yesterday or day b4. Asked him if the BR not on rewards made a difference, and I will quote him.
"dude if these tools would of coded the bsi right and made them the 5 or 6 or 7 or whatever the ____ code it is instead of an S , they never worked anyway. Its no damn change expect for the tools who never did it right in the first place"
I found it rather funny just how he said it. I couldnt tell you either way if its complete fact or not but the guys been around for years and always was a good performer.

Yeah, I thought the same thing.
Blu-rays never worked right with rewards, so I would do overring credits for anyone that really got their panties in a bunch about it, but not any more.

I have several customers I consider friends that are like me are will be a blockbuster customers no matter what, and one of my customer friends was listening to me bitch about it because although I am an employee I am also a huge customer and blu-ray renter and gold rewards member. Since I am gold I don't care what the benifits do as long as I get some but I was talking about a few other customers saying they want their 10 bucks back. He said to me if they get their ten bucks back does that mean they have to pay you back for every free rental they earned up untill that point. I swear I thought I was going to die laughing.

Most people complain, but I give them the refund without a doubt when it's within the 90 day period. I'm sick of hearing about rewards...That's all this damn company cares about.

Get your money back. They owe that to you.
Not necessarily. If they got more than 10$ worth free, no refund. Unless they want to pay the money they owe and get the refund. (For example, I got 3 non new movies free, that's around 15, I would owe 5 if I got the refund)
And LOL at lawsuit. WOW. Really.
Last I read with the updates, the blurays weren't able to be used for mon-wed rent 1 get 1 but the nr coupons still worked for your monthlies, unless it says on it that it cannot be used.
