October's Big Event
So has anyone else had to deal with DM/DTSM calling about what your store's planning for it's BIG October event? Good lord I think they want us to do something with Haunted House/Psycho Woods theme. Because after August's big event that only my SM attended we did NOTHING for September unless you consider Thor-a-thon, Bridesmaids weekend, Football Sundays and Transformers weekend events....and the door hangers they were so jazzed about us combing the neighborhood and distributing? They are still sitting in the box unopened. Our regulars are becoming quite pissed about Thor never being in stock. I told them what do you expect-the wall is a lie and we only got 14 copies so if it is every here in the next week you've found the needle in the haystack.

Wow, so many rats in one place- must be a Blockbuster Regional Managers Meeting
|
Some brilliant ideas from my district include a blood drive, a car wash and a block party, which will include free hot dogs (we don't need a food permit if we're not selling them???) and face painting. Ooh, and maybe a bouncy house. Because, you know, that's in the budget.
I'm not washing anyone's fucking car. That's for damn sure. |

I suggested for October we do a "Who Gives A Shit About Commercials-A-Thon" to promote our not having any and all. Somehow, this did not receive the green light.

HH must have some killer time on his hands with all the funny pics he has been sending our way:)

There is no way in fuck I would ever wash anyone's car or do any of the things suggested in this thread. When I worked at a video store, it was to rent movies to people, not to be treated like a schmuck who is required to do stupid, ineffective shit like pass out door hangers and pass out free hot dogs, or whatever ridiculous garbage Dish is expecting.
If I still worked there, I would suggest a "how about I sit on my ass and watch movies, so when customers ask me about them, I can recommend something worthwhile for them to watch. And then I can vacuum, straighten, count the till, clean up, run movies and go the fuck home-a-thon." |

Ha! Nice! That's what I'm talking about.

LOCAL STORE MARKETING BEST PRACTICES: True stories but I change the store numbers. They expect all stores to do something like these lol
-Store 11111 participated in the a Flea Market. They were up 707% in PRP comps the day after participating in this event. --The college fraternities were building their floats this Friday. Nick went down to the area and flyered cars and put door hangers on all of the frat houses. He was able to speak to a member of each fraternity and really got a lot of good feedback on the pass and some good buzz around the store re-opening. -Store 1111 and 2222 participated with the Northern GA Boys and Girls Club at their Fall Festival. On Friday night, it started with a Family Game Night tournament of Marvel vs. Cap Com. We used the PS3 and another team member brought his projector screen. After dark, we had the parking lot roped off and families brought their kids in to participate and we popped popcorn and spoke to the families about the Combo pass. On Saturday, we set up a membership drive and distributed the coupons we received from the FMR. We had a SL dress up in the Rewind costume taking pictures with the children and Just Dance playing on a Wii. Store 99999 held an outdoor event, in conjunction with a bank. Associates gave out free movie rental cards, good grades, combo passes and 49 cent flyers. They opened 5 new memberships and 3 quick adds, all 8 customers came to the store and purchased the combo pass. The store sold a total of 40 + and sold $540.00 in PRP! Over 40 customers stated they did not know the local blockbuster was still open. (This is a common theme for us). |
If I bang my head against the wall enough, I might pass out or die, which will bring in emergency response people... and maybe they'll all get combo passes.
I'd totally do a flea market, though. Hollywood Video used to set up a booth at my county fair and sell their prp. |
