I was pissed to see gas had jumped .50 literally overnight here in Georgia, about a week and a half ago. I emailed the local chains, and told them I get that they don't set the prices but to kick my email to those that do, and find out why the hell it's so high.
I got an email back a few days ago, saying "Well, due to market conditions and competition...We at XYZ Company understand your concerns..."
Sorry, but I've worked in a few convenience stores and know that once one place drops the price, the others generally follow. It's why managers have to cruise their competition every day, sometimes several times a day, to get gas prices and either call them in, or email them in....just like Blockbuster had us do during RedBox's first days. I think it's sad that these gas companies think they can just tap dance and we'll forget we asked about it.
They forget they've done this before, too:
Huffington Post July 2011
ABC News 2006
Every bullshit excuse about "market conditions", "supply and demand", "more demand overseas", "damage sustained to oil rigs during Hurricane Katrina", etc., is just a bunch of ass covering. It's why every time those figures come out for their profits, suddenly gas prices plunge...for a couple of weeks.
