JL, now you're just getting lazy.
there are already 2 Percy Jackson threads (not including this one)....

One of which YOU started!

And as for the movie, here's a little something I noticed. Let's say you knew of a young demi-god who you wanted to protect, and so you wanted to give him a bodyguard. You have access to all of the creatures of Greek mythology... and you choose a satyr. A child of Dionysus whose sole purpose in life is to drink and fuck.
Yup. Sounds like the ideal choice to guard a teenager.

I hate to pull out my nerd card but I read the first book (actually listened to the cds) before seeing the movie and I may be able to answer that.

Grover (the satyr) had screwed up big time a few years prior (the book goes into more detail) and basically begged to watch over Percy to earn the trust back.

On a side note, like most book to screen adaptations, it wasn't as good as the book. They changed a bunch of stuff including whose idea it was to steal the lightning bolt in the first place.

but scowl, you're forgetting that no one drinks and fucks in kid movies!

instead, they consume hallucinogenic, addictive substances, gamble and slash at each other with swords leaving deep, bloody wounds.

IMO i was surprised with the PG rating.

I liked the mythology part of this movie, the kid annoys me because i kept thinking he was Zac Efron, and we really dont need 2 of that in the world.

hey now, don't hate on zac efron. yeah sure disney, and everything they produce with real people in it is mind numbingly intolerable but now that he's free from disney i think he's gonna have a long and successful career.

ok, he won me over in 17 again.

so this percy jackson stuff is ok? really?

i usually love greek mythology but all this special effects and 3d bologna has really been turning me off to the percy jacksons and clashes of the titans.

Again, the desire for redemption isn't exactly in the satyr handbook. That would be like one of Aphrodite's followers preaching abstinence.

Not forgetting... just hoping.

Oh, and is it just me or was his mom's boyfriend channeling Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force?

Well, he wanted to earn their trust back so he could get promoted, if you will, so he could go on a mission. A mission that many satyrs before him (including his uncle, who was turned to stone by Medusa and was at her place in the movie) had gone on and not returned. There's more to that story but it's in the second book and I don't want to spoil anything.
