I agree, and is probably part of the reason bbvcas's joke didn't work. I on the other hand understood it, just didn't find it funny.

Long story short, the guy who has it out has the Movie Pass and pretty much stopped account activity since August. Yes, for months after still having these movies on Movie Pass, he still rented just as normally.

This guy has paid $150-$200 this year to keep out a random Dora movie and the Iron Giant. Would you call this account to remind him that he still has the Movie Pass? If so, would you give a massive credit for him 'forgetting' about it even if he still has the movies out or basically take a 'I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do' approach?
Oh, haha... At first I thought you said that the guy who had Iron Giant out for 9 months was coming into the store looking for the same movie. XD

Isn't the first numbers of a movie your store number?

Yes. But those numbers don't show up when you hit LIST, just the Part # and Copy #.

They had had out Monty Python and the Holy Grail for over a year when I figured it out because one of the movies that they had paid to rent came back post 37 days and then I was surprised to see a pass on there because I didn't recognize the people. Anyway, so after talking to by DL I cancelled the pass, he never figured it out.

Actually, scratch what I said before - I heartily endorse this suggestion instead.

If it was the same way we used to do it, it was a deposit/'hold' of some money. We used to have to phone the bank or credit card supplier and place a hold over something like £100 and then phone to remove it afterwards. I imagine some places probably enforced the customer to pay a deposit, then it was refunded when the item was returned.

It was a real shit, btw. Anyone who had that kind of money kicking around wasn't the type that needed to rent a DVD player...

I wish my store had this problem - usually it's people coming in screaming "WHY DID YOU CHARGE MY CARD?" because they wanted to cancel their automatic renewal but forgot to tell us that. While I agree that it's good to flag accounts that are being renewed but aren't being used to prevent situations like this, I definitely wouldn't give a credit for all of those months. It's the same as people who wait two months to bring in a movie and then want to argue that you should refund their money because the movie wouldn't play or whatever - I'm pretty generous at the store I work at, but in my mind there's a limit on how long you can not deal with someone and then expect to get sympathy out of me.
