Banking time for services

Another thing, great if you have the time to do it (i.e., unemployed): Time Banks.

Essentially, you take a service you're good at (yard work, babysitting, etc.) or trained/skilled at (finances, carpentry, etc.) and volunteer your time to a member of a time bank. As you work, you are given usually a dollar credit to an account and others in your time bank network can work for "free" based on your account. While it's not lucrative, if you're willing to work, you might be able to get services. So, you might be able to get someone's taxes together or babysit your way to a newly painted house or a tune-up, for instance.

Here's a time bank directory.

Exclamation Negotiate!!!!

In order to save money and time a few years ago, I bundled my internet and cable, but at the time, cable phone service wasn't available in my area. The minute it was, I added it to my service. It turns out, they weren't giving me Triple Play(tm), but just added phone service at its regular price. I didn't think I was eligible for Triple Play, so I didn't say anything.

I recently had a few questions about my Comcast bill. When I asked about some of the charges, the Comcast technician let me know that I coulda had Triple Play and changed my plan, which saves me about $20 a month. As a "my bad" peace offering, they also added HBO for three months free!

Take a good look at your bill. See what you can work with and talk to your service provider! You might be able to shave your bill down somewhat!

Lightbulb RE-Cycle!

This is one that's truly dependent on which state you live in. For example, the only things you can get $$$ to recycle in Georgia are aluminum cans, scrap metal, and copper. (Or at least, in my area!)

But I've noticed on some glass and plastic bottles, there are states listed in which they say they'll give you 5 or 10 cents per bottle.

Just a thought!

Also, I've heard that Pepsi is starting work on a machine, being currently tested in some areas, that if you put in your recycleable plastic bottles, they'll give you credit toward a website for purchases!

ETA: Here's the Facebook page for Pepsi's Dream Machine.

When I needed money I would totally take advantage of a couple legit freebie sites, and take the stuff to walmart to return and say I lost the receipt. It's a bit of work, but free stuff. Pm for the sites if interested, I don't want it to look like I'm spamming. Just offering advice to anyone struggling.

Thumbs up Show up at free food/giveaway events (non-charity)

A local BBQ chain (Shane's Rib Shack) has a yearly "thank you" party in which they give away a half a rack of ribs, a large drink and a promotional t-shirt to the first 100 customers on this particular day (it's in May). I gathered my family and we all got lunch and a t-shirt for free. I made the kids hand over their t-shirts to me for their school clothes next year.

Listen to your local radio station or check the web for local (non-charity) giveaways in your area!

...then actually show up on time!

ETA: Added a link to their store locations page. They are mostly in the Southeast, but also have locations in New York, Iowa and Arizona.
