Seen the planograms. Very nice stores from looking at those and this was all info we heard at the CEO roadshow.

Yeah, they have been talking about it since the new CEO took over. I guess they are going to test it. Sounds like a lot of money to invest just to get someone in your store. Home theater systems, hell they are a dime a dozen everywhere. To much competition. I used to be in the electronic sales industry. Unless you have good proven product and trained employees, not to mention service for this stuff. It will go over like a lead balloon.

Yup. There are about 7 stores in Dallas that are becoming "Blockbuster Media." With a shiny new silver logo over the front door.

They're tearing out a good chunk of BSI and retail and shrinking the wall significantly to make room for couches and high-end home theatre systems.

Labour at these stores is also being increased dramatically, so there will be a minimum of five people working at any one time.

So, we are looking at another total failure here. Seriously, who the hell is going to sit around the local BBI store and spend money on a theater system they can get at wallyworld cheaper. Not to mention the big box electronic stores that have salesmen trained just for that. What, another failed RadioShack? They even tried that once in our stores and it didn't work. People just want a damn movie and be out as quick as they can. They want to make money?, well selling products from untrained electronic sales personal will not work. Maybe Buy huge amounts and just stack them up at low prices. But don't make a living room out of my store.

Well, these stores are *getting* trained sales personnel. That's one of the reasons for the increased labour. A new position is being created - "Electronics Specialist" - whose job it will be to move the home theatres out the door. Also, probably to clean up after all the little kids who are going to spill ice cream and shit all over the couches.

My worry is that some of these stores are going to be in less-affluent areas, and I'm sure that it's going to turn into "Hey, let's round up the family and go up to Blockbuster and watch movies for free!"

The other concept that's being tested out is the idea of "Blockbuster Convenience Stores." These stores will open at 6 AM and sell coffee, donuts, fountain drinks, newspapers, etc.
