Have you cashed it yet? I think you should because he gave it to you for a reason. That reason could be anything but he wanted you to have because he no longer needs it. I say spend it wisely

The thing that prevents me from cashing it is guilt. Maybe I earned it, but do I really deserve it? All I did was my job, and it's just a handy benefit that I love my job and have fun doing it. The side effect was that the guy also had fun coming in and talking movies with me and stuff. But also, this is a fresh widow; I don't know her situation. Maybe they were living off his retirement? Maybe that $100 is a gesture and now that she's all alone she really has no other sustenance and could use the hundred more than I could?

The devil on the other shoulder, however, says to me that I don't recall EVER seeing anything in the employee handbook expressly forbidding accepting tips. I've worked as a waiter before to put myself in college (until I found out I got financial aid, natch) and I've had well-off customers tip me well over $100 before. I feel guilt free about that because they willingly handed it over, I had no question about their affluence or anything, and to be fair, it was a classy joint.

*sighs* Well, if I wait 180 days, the bank makes the decision for me...

Danny - why don't you give the money to a charity?
