For those of you with this streaming thing, what's the selection like? Would you be able to get Star Trek on Tuesday, or is there a wait for new releases? Could you get episode 3 of season 4 of Sopranos, or literally any obscure movie you could find on DVD, or watch commentaries?

I had a peek at Tivo's BB library and wasn't the least bit impressed; Amazon's service, which was listed right next to BB's, was more expansive and cheaper.

well, you have to understand that at first the selection was just terrible. since then, it's gotten exponentially better except there's one missing commonality: most major films wouldn't be available upon release. some of them may never be instant stream material while a few of them may take a few months (or even years) after DVD release until they are. the only titles that you can expect to get instant stream upon release are usually lower-budget, foreign or documentaries.

so Star Trek? i wouldn't expect it at all. TV series on the other hand? maybe. Netflix has the best TV streaming selection. the seasons of Heroes came to Netflix stream a couple weeks before they released on DVD at Blockbuster. i know that says very little because, hey, Heroes can't even be considered a good TV series but it's produced by a major studio with a mainstream following.

there are a lot of good obscure titles that you can stream, which is what most attracted me and the page format for comments gives you a good idea of what comments to trust and which to ignore. they also place critic reviews at the top of the page.

but i do want to note that the selection is LARGE and there are a lot of good movies to choose from, though harder to find because there are that many of them.

basically, if you're all about "hot new releases", don't get netflix for the streaming in hopes it will fill that void.

New Heroes Updates Every Tuesday on Netflix Streaming Service. Commercial Free.

I don't even watch it on Monday nights anymore... just wait to Tuesday to watch it without commercials.
