i agree. but i do tell my CSR's that it is there responsibility to TRY and find coverage. But i also wouldn't brush off the test. The SAM/SM (post was confusing) probably couldn't miss the test without failing it, and probably (hopefully) didnt realize how important/serious your daughters problem was. I wouldn't go through ethics or human resources, I'd bring it to your SM and DM first. they'd respect you more for it.

It's one thing to ask a coworker to help you find a replacement. It's entirely another to demand that a coworker make a sacrifice in their own lives to help you. It doesn't matter what the excuses are; if you needed the morning off because you were the only one who could save the galaxy from hyperdimensional space ferrets, and the SAM had a test, then the SAM can't work for you. You might as well ask me to cover your shift. I can't; my excuse is that I live a thousand miles away. Your personal issues may "trump" my issue of the distance and plane ticket, but really only if the same person had to choose between both issues; I'd travel a thousand miles, or skip a test, to help my daughter, and you'd skip a test to help yours, but when they are faced by separate people they just become two different but valid excuses why you can't work that shift.

From a management point of view, it's my job to make sure the shift gets covered.
I'll ask the person to help find a replacement if they want to switch shifts so they have the day off,
but I cannot demand they do my job, finding coverage, since they gave me ample notice and it's my job.

I liked how you gave out Laura's name, but covered everyone else's name.

Anyway... I should start using big letters when I'm typing.. I can actually see those words!

But like everyone else said, your managers suck.

It is solely your responsibility to find someone to cover your shift. You can't badger someone else into doing it just because your personal conflict "trumps" theirs in your eyes (and in this case it does, but that certainly does not mean they are by any means obligated to help you). You call each of your coworkers yourself, and if you don't get help, then you start calling other stores until you do. If for some reason you still can't get help, then you call your store and say sorry, take care of your daughter, and deal with the consequences later.
No it isn't. If you have to cover a shift for an unexcused absence, then this is true. But it's not your responsibility if you are sick or a family member is, it is your managers' responsibility.

ok wait...is the OP a csr or a manager? if they are a csr...its a csr shift. so what? the MOD can work alone. boo. happens all the time. they said its a 10-3 shift. that has to be a csr shift. unless there are still 11am stores still out there.

This whole thing stinks of bullshit. I am wondering if the OP is a habitual absentee.
