Is that really netflix's only big advantage? Jeez. I wish when people say stuff like "Zomg liek they be puttin' u outta bidnez!" they noticed their patron company has all it's eggs in one basket?

I've worked for a company that did the same thing, they don't exist anymore. Their single advantage was picked up by another company, more efficiently, cheaper, and actually better quality. They had no backup recourse.

I've done the Blockbuster OnDemand on my Bluray player, and I do totally agree we should have some kind of subscription service for that, but do I see that company as the end all be all of Blockbuster? No. Apparently not many of you remember our big Online push, when we whored out the online service to everyone possible, Netflix reported it's first net loss in it's history.

That's true, 'dime, plus BBV had the advantage of thousands of stores to borrow from, and good relationships with the studios. That's the funny thing, and even I forget this: one of the things propping up BBV is the studios. They know that they will have a greater profit margin for rentals as long has BBV is charging $5 a pop for their flicks. RedBox is $1 a night and Netflix is subscription, and the studios are making them wait for rentals.

I wonder: could the studios possibly "bail out" BBV if it came to it?

There are 2 ways you can look at Netflix, and both have their merits:
You can either view them as putting all of their eggs in one basket, or you can say that they are focusing on doing one thing, and doing it right.

i've heard that all total access accounts now have unlimited exchanges a month, and all online only accounts now have 3 exchanges a month.

If Blockbuster removed all stores, and functioned purely on BB Online, Kiosks, and OnDemand, they'd all of a sudden seem much more competitive, because they're not paying tens of thousands of employee's wages.
And that is BBi's working plan now ...
