I think now that there finishing up with Canada there going to focus there attack on the US stores now LOL. It has been too quiet about store closings in the US until now.

Does anyone know what happen in court last time dish went with the lease issue ? I heard that most stores where staying open but I have my doubts about the stores that had there lease ending this year and first part of next year. Why would dish want to commit to another 3 to 5 years knowing things are not going well. I know the store I use to worked at had there lease up this year I think It was October or November and that's coming up and I remember seeing a few other stores leases expiring soon too. I bet another wave of closings will happen soon.

I am SOOOOOO not in denial or being Big Blue's bitch----so with that said I read the articles you cited and 1 isn't about the US but Canada and the 2 about store's closing states that both store's were franchise stores. Just saying.

Yeah, it's only the franchise ones for now, Glass is right. However, crunch time will probably happen after Q4 PartyGuy. I do see cuts being made then certainly. Stores that aren't profitable after the holiday rush will probably just be considered dead weight by Dish then. I expect them to trim the number gradually after that depending on profitability and some other variables. I know one thing, if a store isn't in the green with SPR and operating margin by January of next year.........you're probably about to be crushed like Wile E. Coyote.

Pretty much all of the stores that are in the news right now are franchise stores. We got hit the hardest and are now dropping like flies. Besides, I'm sure that Dish isn't going to want franchise stores competing with theirs anymore. If they won't let Canada stores use the BBV name, they aren't going to let privately run American stores do it.

Once the franchise stores are completely eliminated, my guess is that small, cheaply-run corporate stores will begin replacing the larger ones. I think that Dish probably wants a small store base for in-store exchanges, but these will probably be smaller than 1k square feet and will act more as "depots" for exchanges and the occasional paid rental. There is no reason why Dish wouldn't be able to support having smaller depots scattered about. In my city, there are plenty of 1200 square foot retail locations available for under $1,000 per month.

Of course, this is just my guess. Either way, Blockbuster as you folks know it is going to be history soon. Now, if Netflix will hurry up and finish dying, perhaps I can still live my dream of running my own small video store. Hell, there are a few indies here still. It might be possible.

Well so much for the 1500 stores and over 15,000 jobs... with as of the beginning of this month over 400 stores closing and more being added weekly... hmm they should release that to the news
