Packaged Media is Dead? Long Live Packaged Media

Looks like there might just be some life in the old girl yet.

Which means, it's not the business model itself that is lacking, but the implementation of said business model.

Panties prepare to bunch

Looks like they are set to advance as Blockbuster and TransWorld are retreating. I wonder if there is any movement by any other chains into the East ... I mean Best side of the country?

I think for now we are very fortunate that movies are really large files on the internet. Once the technology comes for the average person to download a DVD as fast as they download a CD today, it's going to be a lot tougher.

I am very torn, because part of me can't possibly see brick and mortar stores, and part of me knows if it's done right there is a niche market that could sustain, even maybe a decade or two from now. Time will tell, but Blockbuster was oversaturated.

I can download a HD movie in about 10mins. Video Games are a different story.

ya I like to use Netflix streaming but when I want to own a movie I go to the store and buy it. Same with CD's. I only pay for the good stuff!

To me, there's a massive picture/sound quality difference between a 50GB Blu Ray disc and an Apple TV 'HD' movie. The Apple TV is pretty good for what it is, but 1080p/24 @ 54mbps it ain't.

I feel that Blu Ray disc is peerless, unless you want to download a 50GB file for each movie.

Yeah, just note everyone:

Video doesn't take that much space! Its the Audio that takes the most space!
