The Trials and Tribulations of the Blue Company
We all are sitting here with uncertainty everyday. We are scheduled to work, and have no idea whether or not our store will remain open. Some of us depend on Blockbuster to pay bills, while others could care less about the company.
This post is to those of you who still don't see the writing on the wall. I am going to make this as clear as possible for you people with wool over your eyes. The number one poster on here who is drinking a hell of a lot of kool-aid is DavidSL. This is for you among others. Here is who we owe money to, and how much... Walt Disney- 6.4 Million Summit- 1.6 Million Fox- 24 Million Universal- 13 Million Total- 45 Million There are other companies, and I'm sure other studios will come out claiming non-payment as well. Keep in mind, that other payments we owe are not publicly listed. From the articles I've kept up with, they claim we owe near 90 Million total. Here we are trying to stay positive in tumultuous times. I hope you all have your resumes updated and are constantly looking for a way out. I know the economy is down and jobs are hard to come by, but you have to find something soon. I have recently been brought on as an umpire for baseball, and girl's softball. It gives me a leg to stand on at least until the middle of summer. Blockbuster has until April. We owe far too much money to make it out of this alive. When a judge says that he has never seen such an aggressive sale in his 35 years on the bench, and makes a joke about our company being a garbage truck that should sprout wings....well, that should tell you a lot. The Justice Department is now recommending Chapter 7. I respect most of you on this forum. I just hope that those you have a glimmer of hope for this company have an ace up their sleeve. As for me, I will never return to retail after BB goes under. Blockbuster, in its last days, has made me hate people in general. It killed my spirit to be in the retail environment. Good Luck to all of you! |

DON"T FORGET to add
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Inc Paramount Home Entertainment Inc I wouldn't be shocked if more studios follow and try to collect before March 10th. I honestly have to say I see full liquidation of ALL stores real soon. Not many studios will be supplying Blockbuster with movies and more customers will find Red Box, & family video a better option or Netflix. I know at my store ALL the new movies where gone on Tuesday before closing and that NEVER happens till mid week. Customers where not too happy everything was checked out. Even if Blockbuster can work out some type of agreement with the studios by then we will have LOST too many customers and it will be TOO LATE. MY GUESS IS 60 DAYS FOR SURE BY THE END OF SUMMER ....... |

I thought BB owed Summit and Disney closer to 9 million each?

So, Summit is owed the least, and is leading this action? I guess the lesson here is, don't mess with those sparkly Mormon vampires. They don't fuck around.
I still love the joke about how BBI now knows how it feels to get phone calls demanding the return of movies and the payment of fees.

Do they take monopoly money or pickles as payment??!? hahhaaha
Anyways, If we owe $90-150 million, once the company is brought by someone by March 10, 2011. Blockbuster can easily use that $300 million to pay those radical debts back which will calm the studios down and will have left over money to use. Thus, giving bb482 another shot at making the stores profitable again. If that fails. Then Blockbuster goes straight to chapter 7.

If Keyes and Co have anything to say, it won't work that way. Whoever buys out the company will pay the $300mil, and STILL have to deal with the debt. That money goes to the owners of the company, not the creditors. The creditors won't like it, and will fight it, but they'll see very little of the purchase money.
