Don't just bail on your job. That's lame. Besides, if your store is closing, why not just stick it out a few more weeks? That way you don't burn any bridges, you don't screw over your coworkers and you can collect unemployment. Oh, and you can leave knowing you took the high road and behaved like a mature adult.

Even though I am hosed for staying, I wouldn't do it any other way. I won't leave my SM high and dry. I've been through a closing as an SM and I was short staffed. Worked normally 80 hours a week on a good week and other weeks close to 100 because no stores would offer up any mod coverage. I have work ethic and will work just as hard for her, not anyone else, as I have since I walked through the door. I still take pride in my job and will until the last day. Does it suck yes, was it inevitable, yes, am I bitter, no, am I blaming anyone, no. I've known this was going to happen but put it in the back of my mind because I am there to do a job. This is life's way of saying it is time for my family and I to make a change. Yes I think it's shitty that at least 400 stores are closing and no it doesn't make complete sense, it's not all black and white with profit / loss etc. Yes I think it's shitty so many people are going to be out of work. I will not burn any bridges nor will I screw over anyone I work with because that is not who I am. Anyone who does that... well that really does say a lot about who you are and the type of person you are. Okay, time to get back off my soap box and stop ranting lol. Just thought I would toss in my two cents.

I don't mean literally "leave", I just mean get out as soon as you possibly can. But if you have to work tomorrow - Christmas Day, when NO ONE should be working - don't show up. Show up the next day. Worst case scenario: you get fired, and must find another job, which will automatically be better because it isn't BBV. No matter what happens, it is guaranteed you won't be working NEXT Christmas Day, and you won't be working next July 4th, or next Easter, so why waste time now?

There's an even bigger backlash on Blockbuster's Facebook page about stores being open on Christmas than there is about the closures.

This is why I always try to hire as many college students as possible. They're usually far from home, can't afford to go back for the holidays, and love the holiday pay.

Well, them and athiests. We're a fun team.

Customers are pretending to give a shit the store is open on Christmas? Just like the "backlash" against stores opening on Thanksgiving for Black Friday and opening at midnight and the petitions against said store hours. Yet we saw sales records this year that shattered anything the economists thought they would see.

I don't know how many of you worked tonight, but we were balls to the wall busy tonight on Christmas Eve. I suspect we will be busy tomorrow. Customers PRETEND to care if we are open, act like it's such a heinous thing, but then they SPEND THEIR MONEY anyway.

Corporate gives a SHIT about petitions, Facebook threats, blah blah blah. The ONLY thing they listen to is MONEY. And they continue to make money on Christmas Day. That is the reason we are open, and the only reason we are open.

Bet your bottom dollar that next year more stores will open at midnight on Thanksgiving for Black Friday, if not earlier than that. And if stores could show they would make a profit on Christmas, they would be open then, too.

There were a lot more comments on those threads (on fb) the other day but bb has deleted them. Thursday it was at about 90 comments, next morning down to 60 something. The ones they deleted were about store closings.
