Did your severance stop? Well. Let's do something.

I'm hearing that we are losing our severance package. It's not a full on yes that we are, but if we do, we should know our options.

Fuck. It's only 900$, but that's my heat for next winter and I can't afford to move without a job right now. I need that 900$.

We all (mostly) have signed contracts. What do these contracts say? I know mine had 8 1/2 weeks. Did BBV send these out knowing full well that the company could be bought?

If we were to all get together and sue, what would it do? Would we sue BBV and they've got nothing, where would the money come, etc.

Are there people interested in getting together for such a thing? We are all over the US...If some of you could talk to your labor board and see what options there are, I will try to do the same.
If this happens (and I hope to God it doesnt because I want to be FUCKING DONE with blockbuster already), then we will create a private place to speak about what's happening. Be prepared to give up names, stores, your name, personal info like place you live, stuff like that.

I wish I could have just gotten my last check and be done with it.

Just when we're out, they pull us back in.

My question would be whether there was some fine print in the bankrupcy protection laws that allows them to not pay out severances..

I honestly have no idea, i'm not even American. But from what i've personally read up on labour laws, i've never found them to have actually broken any here, just come as close as possible to the line without crossing it.

But isn't this what happens when a company goes bankrupt? I thought this was a major (but legal) scandal in the late 80s when companies got gobbled up left and right and long-time employees lost their pensions and severance. It's horrible and unfair, but I don't think it's illegal.

I have no idea right now but I plan to talk to sone lawyers and labor boards and see.
Once again the higher ups at corporate got their money when we're all scrounging. It's not bad enough I lost my job, is it?

I know when there was info about it that whatever happens with the company, Keyes gets something. If he's fired, he gets a severance. If the company goes bankrupt, he gets something. I wish I could be an asshole with bad ideas and still get paid!

Hey ninja, I talked to a labor board rep and she said there is nothing they can do because it doesn't fall under certain federal criteria.
