The new Buy 2 Get 2 PVD sale brought this up today. A couple, mid to late 30s, brings up 4 PVDs, 2 priced 14.99, 2 priced 9.99. I ring them up, scan the barcode, and announce to them their total of $31 and change after tax. The following ensues:

Lady: You took off the 2 that are 14.99 right?
Me: No. The free ones are of equal or lesser value than the ones you pay for.
Guy: No.
Me: Yes.
Guy: Okay, well then I'll buy these two, and she can buy these two. (WTF?)
Me: The sign says that the purchase must be done in the same transaction to get the discount.
Guy: Then we'll just take the two 14.99 ones.
Me: You realize if you do that it'll be the same price I just told you right?
Guy: Okay, you take these back then.

Then they went to look for more movies. They bring up 4 more, again, 2 are 14.99 and 2 are 9.99.

Guy: Okay, I'm going to buy the 4 that are 9.99, and she's going to buy the 4 that are 14.99.
Me: No.
Guy: Why not?
Me: It's just not going to happen.
Guy: Then you can have your movies then.

The first time they came up, you handled it correctly. However, the second time you were completely wrong not to give your customers the best possible deal and if I were them I would never visit your store again.

Well, that's the point though. The only reason that second time happened was because the guy thought he was being clever and going above the policy I explained to him. Not to mention, there was no way I was going to do him any favors after he basically tried to tell me that I was doing by job wrong by not allowing him to get the more expensive movies for free.

Your logic is incredibly idiotic. You first had a transaction that would have generated $30 in revenue for your store (not bad). The customer was not happy and decided to look again. You then had 2 transactions that would have generated $50 in revenue for your store (even better), and you refused the sale. Now your store has zero transactions from these customers for a total of $0 revenue. Please explain how you "won" in this situation.

Oh man.. I agree with you. It was just stupid not to help them out again.. I think they should move this to employees say the darnedest things.

If the customer wants all same-priced movies rung together, you do it. there's no protocol forbidding it. next time that happens, ring them through 12 and 9. you keep a PAYING customer and your store gets REVENUE. I understand why you didn't do it, but for future reference, you can hon

The first part of that I get. The second part if you're a CSR is frankly misconduct, and if you're a manager is a little silly. I mean did they say anything that was really so offensive? People like to get their money's worth, it's a strange phenomenon I noticed...

EDIT: You're right Vixen, could have just been a misperception I suppose.

With that situation makes me wonder about what I did in this one.

Was when we had buy 2 PRP get 1 free on.

C: Oh yeah I have a couple of those $1 off dollar coupons, just hang on.
Me: Sorry sir, but you can't use those since your using another promotion.
C: It doesn't say that anywhere on the sign out there.
Me: Well it probably does in small print and it also says it on the back of the coupon itself.
*I read the back aloud to him*
C: So what your saying is I can't use these coupons?
Me: Not right now, not unless you don't want to get a free rental.
C: Well that's ridiculous you can keep your movies. *walks out*
Me: Okay....
