At my store, our monitors are up higher than the rest of the counter, with the card machines behind the monitor. When something is placed on the counter in front of your register, the view is entirely blocked.
So I was checking DVDs on the back counter, when I hear a customer approach. She hands me her stack of DVDs, and I proceed to check her out. Me: "Will these be all for you today?" *holds up movies* Cust: "Mmhm" *has already swiped card and is staring intently at the screen in front of her* Me: "Your total is xx.xx." Cust: "Wait, how come these aren't on here?" *holds up a bunch of candy she had sitting on her side of the counter...where I couldn't see it.* Me: "Uh...Sorry, didn't see those." Cust: "Whatever, learn how to do your job." |

I used to do that when i worked there. Hell it was 1000 times easier than the Dog book and was 100000 times better than using the POS to be able to find nothing except by exact title.

Customer brings me up items and I ring her up...
Me: Your total is 5.38 Customer: Alright I have this gift card Me: Do you know how much is on it? Customer: No, not really. Me: Alright. Let me check the balance. Customer: *shruggs* Me: OK, the gift card has 6.43 on it.b Please slide it through again. Customer: That never mad sense to me why you all always have to check the balance. Me: Well so we know how much is actually on the gift card. Customer: Glares and says whatever. I was amused and shocked at the same time ![]() |

I had a gift card though and from an ex employee / now customer stand point I find the process 100% pathetic.
First----If they run my gift card without checking balance and the card doesnt have enuf on it the transaction will error and decline and still not tell them what is on giftcard so they got to run a damn gbal just so they can run tranaction. How freaking pathetic is that and a complete waste of time that the system is so antiquated it cant even properly run a transaction. Second----What in the hell is this crap about me getting a giftcard back with 9 cents on it. That is probably the SINGLE most pathetic scenario overall with giftcards. Come on BBV have you really gotten that damn cheap that you need my 9 cents as residual income and hope i throw that pathetic card away. Blah!!!!!! You know some of these things are just common sense for decent customer service. Why isnt there anyone figuring this stuff out long before its live? Why isnt there someone or someone's out there whos job is to discover just the complete lack of common sense on some of these areas? There have been some decisions I've learned about and many have been voiced on these BOARDS here [ie credits control loosened, as 1 example]. Is it really taking Corporate guys viewing these boards to make and change things and use smart decsions? If so then HIRE or promote these folks and get the JOB DONE in advance not long after its almost too late, AGAIN.
