Pre-sales
I hope I am not posting about something that has already been posted about if so i am ready for my flaming.
Is it just me or are presales done backwards, they want us to push the popular gmes that everyone is going to have a million copies of. To me it would make more sence to pre-order that small game or that small indy movie that you might not be able to find anywhere else? Does anyone believe that Madden 2010 is going to be hard to find? but the new small game wil be (so i can not think of any examples, but i remember when certian games or movies came out looking for weeks for them) Now tell me why i am wrong>? |

It's a case of getting people to put down a deposit thus making them more likely to come back and buy the game/film from us, and if we're lucky trade in a few of their own bits against it.

More like backwards because we don't even sell new games independently yet try to presell them.

we don't specialize in games so presaling games to that extent is not something we would do.
and movie presales is all about reassuring copy depth with demand. at least, for blockbuster... |

lets see if i can describe what i wore during the last 15 minutes of my shift yesterday. a laniard with the metal clips shut inside of an amray with the madden preorder artwork. i wore it like a necklace. like flavor flav.

Now what is the big problem with this? or at least the problems that I see..... We are a RENTAL store. Too many times have I heard this "No one told me that reserve was so I could buy the game, I just want to RENT IT" (we don't usually explain that part due to the pressure of sales goals) Also most of our customers are here for the MOVIES, gamers are few and far between not to mention if the gamers are only into certain games (Ex. RTS, RPG, Sports, FPS, ect.) , so we don't get very many opportunities to push a presale to a customer. "I hate football" or "Same game different year" I hear from some gamers I paid for some preorders due to the fact that if I didn't pay for them we would have a big fat zero on preorders for the week. |

And now they will fire you for pre-sale fraud, oh my! We should all pre-sale some just to have extra retail copies on midnight madness.

Missing The Bus
If they want us to presale things, they should quit leaving it until the last minute! We should have a part number for Transformers, Harry Potter, Up and all the other summer movies so far. people are already looking for them.
Remember the days when we would presale a boat load of movies but we had time and some kind of incentive (rental card etc).... Mmm well at the rate we are closing stores we will all be out of a job soon enough.... |

Sports Illustrated magazine is advertising a free Madden 2010 with a 1 year subscription for 48.99 plus a football DVD. Sounds like a deal to me.
