I have a feeling the we're exposed to that more in its other uses than when it's used as a color developer on our receipt paper.

They use it to line soda cans for crying out loud.

Reminds me of the time I ate a receipt to be funny.

Which is probably what you have to do, several times a day, to get any kind of meaningful exposure to evil-chemical-of-the-week from receipt paper.

If you think the chemical in the receipt paper is bad, then you should remember that over the years, several regular food products have been considered bad, too.

For instance, potatoes, eggs, and popcorn were all considered high in fat and cholesterol until scientists said, "Hey dumbasses! Stop floating them in butter and cream!" In other words, it's all about how you cook them. Movie theater popcorn (not the microwave "movie theater" but actual concession popcorn) has been linked to high cholesterol, thanks to the coconut oil they used to pop it in.

But the other side of the argument is, they also used to think it was safe to use lead paint and asbestos, too!

Ah...... you mean the "Blockbuster Dinner". We've been calling it that for years. Typically involves a Pop, Chips, chocolate bar and sugary candy.

My location is so far from the nearest healthy food source, we can't even dash out to buy a sandwich. We have to drive at least a mile to find a 7-11. I make a conscious effort to pack my lunch now. I've been hungry enough on some shifts that eating paper would have been awesome!
